In 2017 and 2018, hundreds of refugee Christian families in Northern Iraq were helped by the aid organization with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. As a result of the escalating conflict in October 2017 between formerly allied Iraqi and Kurdish forces, thousands of refugees abandoned their homes in Northern Iraq and sought temporary security in neighbouring settlements.
The project started with immediate humanitarian aid in the areas of Alqosh, Sharafyaba and Bandwayaba. In the area of Sulaymaniyah Governorate, the relief operation continued in the settlements of Sitak, Rania, Tasluja, Halabja and Said Sadiq in March 2018 with the support of Syrian refugees.
We renovated 55 houses in Karakosh in the first half of 2018, in the city of Bashiqa provided 100 litres of fuel to 324 returning families each and helped restore the local basic infrastructure in Alqosh by renovating water towers.
Another important issue was support provided in education, thus we renovated and equipped two schools in Bashiqa with all the necessary tools and started providing psycho-social assistance in the area.
The total value of humanitarian aid was HUF 125,000,000, as a result of which we were able to help more than 11,000 beneficiaries.
Project budget: HUF 125,000,000
